Mistral AI & All Hands AI

Devstral

A 24B agentic coding model built for software-engineering agents like OpenHands. Apache 2.0, 128K context, and small enough to run on a single RTX 4090 or a 32 GB Mac.

Overview

Devstral is a collaboration between Mistral AI and All Hands AI, the team behind the OpenHands agent. Instead of optimizing for single-function benchmarks, it was fine-tuned to solve real GitHub issues end to end. At launch it was the top open model on SWE-bench Verified, and the July 2025 update (Small 1.1) pushed the score further.

Strengths

  • Purpose-built for agent loops: reading files, editing, running tests
  • Small enough for local, private agentic workflows
  • Permissive Apache 2.0 license
  • 128K context window

Run it locally

ollama run devstral

Then point an agent such as OpenHands at your local Ollama endpoint.

Good fit for

Running a fully local coding agent with no code leaving your machine.
